It works like this......... We have a two story house so the bedrooms and showers are upstairs.
I totally see the advantages of a ranch style house or at least have the master bedroom on the main level!
For the first week, I slept on the couch and only went upstairs to shower but the couch is only comfortable for so long and after about a week, I was able to move my leg (in the brace) with relativity little amounts of pain.
Now that I'm 18 days into this 'No Walking' chapter of my life, I know myself and I need to start heading upstairs before I'm tired. 9 times of 10 I sit on my bottom and do tricep dips to get upstairs but when I get to the top, I can't miraculously stand up so I scoot on my bottom to the bathtub (12 feet away) and do one gigantic dip and pull myself up to sitting position on the ledge of tub.
Thursday night was a special night, when I got to the top of my stairs my phone rang and so I talked on the phone for 10 minutes at the top of the stairs....I lost my concentration on my routine. After hanging up I proceeded to the bathroom and just when I went to pull myself up, I realized I left my crutches by the top of the stairs. Twelve feet there and twelve feet back was not going to happen, I did not have the energy so I layed on the bathroom floor. I must have been very tired because I started to think 'this isn't that bad, I'm just going to sleep here.
I browsed through my e-mail and facebook on my phone and then then realized I had to go to the bathroom and I wanted to brush my teeth. So I sent Roby a text: I can't do it! Faster than he has ever responded to a text he came running upstairs, he may have thought I was hurt but when I asked for a pillow he could have done one of two things: been frustrated with me that I got this far and gave up (which I was clearly doing) or he could have been the strength that I needed and helped me. He exceeded my expectations!
I am very thankful that he helped me, I slept in my bed and when I woke up, their was a beautiful bouquet of daisy's on my night stand. My champion husband went to the store after I went to bed bought me flowers and a loaf of bread for lunches.
