One thing leads to the next.......

As the project in the backyard continues, a project wouldn't be complete without it leading to finding a couple of more projects.
Problem #1: Every winter the floor drain in the garage backs up and it's so bad that we have to bring in the shop vac and suck the water off the garage floor. Then, every spring we run water down the floor drain and it drains fine....why??? Well as we are digging up the backyard we discover the pipe coming out of the garage is completely shattered. It will be so nice to not have a swimming pool in the garage this winter.
Problem #2: The back door has issues. Sometimes it doesn't close correctly and at times the floor around it feels soft. Well, the siding was taken off to put on the new steps and the discovery of a rotting house was found. When we replace the floor inside (hint, hint) we will need to replace some of the subfloor but I'm happy to report that the rotting wood under the door is replaced and correct seal/lip has been put in place so water is not getting under the siding! Good advice: Never put a deck through siding, take it off so it can be flush to the house!
Problem #3: The floor above the hole (in the picture below) is so cold it's almost unbearable in the winter. Thank you Tim and Matt, they have insulated it, put a floor under the insulation and a metal shield to protect it from water and chewing animals. The children can actually use it as a hide out now.
