Rotten House

Most people know that we have had a rodent problem since we have moved into this house. This past week we have made some major discoveries.
This is the trim of the garage. We removed the siding corners to find rotten boards. We believe that when the house was sided 25 years ago it was not caulked along the top and for 25 years the water has been draining into the trim around the garage and the corners of the house.

The hole on the bottom of this one is one definite entry into the house for our friends. We have temporarily placed steel wool into it until the boards are replaced.

Here is the real rodent problem. We knew that sometimes in the past ten years the chimney had shifted and there is a gap between the chimmney and the house. The previous owners had the chimney reinforced but a flimpsy piece of siding was stuck between the brick and siding. Mice are brillant and they have chewed and wiggled there right into the gap. So now our mission is to find a contracter than can correct the problem permanently and correctly.
